Why use an Au pair agency?

With the advent of the internet it is now possible to bypass agencies and find an Au Pair on one of the many internet sites. This can be risky - the applicants are not vetted, references are not checked and there is no way of knowing how many families the applicant is talking to at any point in time, so they may agree to join a family and then disappear into cyberspace, never to be heard of again ! Many of these applicants are really only interested in finding a placement in London - the majority of our applicants have specifically requested a placement in Scotland and have a good idea of what to expect here.

Furthermore, we endeavour to meet every Au Pair and their host family, help them find a place in a language school and are on hand to sort out any issues as they arise.

I think that I was very lucky with my host family. I had a car for my own use, was paid well and lived in a beautiful old scottish farm house. I could catch the train to Glasgow, which only took half an hour. I still had my freetime during the week to attend an english class which prepared my for the cambridge advanced exam and an art history class at the University of Glasgow. I spend my weekends with the friends I made here and we also went on several fantastic trips together around Scotland and England. Above all, I had the best relationship you could imagine to my hostbrother. We have become like brother and sister and can tell each other everything. I went on holiday with my hostfamily and we visited the Harry Potter Studios in London together. We had a great time and I always felt part of the family. I did not only improve my speaking and learned some life skills, but I also decided to go to university in Scotland starting this September and will hopefully be able to keep in touch with my hostfamily and friends.

I decided to go to Scotland because of the beautiful landscape, the friendly people and it was close to home (sweden). These two years have been the best of my life. I have met people all around the world, made friends for life, I have fallen in love with Scotland and my english is much better then it was before I came here. My host family is now a big part of my life and I know we will stay in contact for a long time. Scotland is exactly what I thought it would be like - kilts, whisky, bagpipes and castles. It's impossible not to fall in love with this country.

I decided to come to Scotland, because I fell in love with this country straightaway when I first came here 6 years ago. Scottish people are so friendly and nice and I knew I wanted to return to see more of this beautiful country. I’ve met lovely people and had a great time exploring Scotland’s absolutely stunning landscapes with them. It’s amazing to see how Scottish people maintain their traditions and I think this year as an au pair was definitely one of the best experiences I’ve made so far.
