Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete (GRC) has been used as a construction material for over 30 years. Alkali-resistant fibreglass provides the tensile strength of the material, allowing the mouldability and durability of concrete to be combined with thin and therefore lightweight sections. Reconstructed stone or applied finishes can be used to integrate the GRC components with other elements of the building.
A | The project architects were keen to minimise the load of the foundations of this area of the building complex hence the use of GRC panels. The light coloured finish was achieved by the use of the spanish dolomite aggregates and white cement.
B | Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete cladding panels and column cladding to main entrance area of this office block. The finish of the GRC was achieved by using the same materials as the adjacent areas of reconstructed stone. Thus although 2 distinct materials were used continuity of finish and harmony of materials were maintained.
