'Beer-mag' Questions & Answers
What
does a 'Beer-mag' actually do and is it effective?
The effect of fitting 'Beer-mag' is that less yeast, sugars and debris
carried in beer adhere to the inside of the beer delivery pipe from a
barrel. As a result, on average, it will take 4 to 5 times longer before
there is a restrictive build up in the pipeline requiring the line to
be cleaned. The big saving for a Landlord is that he can extend the beer-line
pipe cleaning service to every 4-5 weeks once a line has been fitted with
a 'Beer-mag'.
Is
the quality of the beer affected?
No, definitely not. Independent tests on beer-line inhibitors done by
the Brewers Research Foundation International (BRFI) and many other independent
public houses have shown that the quality, taste and colour of the beer
are not affected, IN FACT MOST DRINKERS SAID THE BEER TASTES BETTER!
Are
there any other applications?
The 'Beer Mag' also works well on individual appliances such as automatic
glass washers where there is no inbuilt water softener. Scale build up
in the water flow is reduced. Fit one to the mains water inlet supply
line of any premises in a hard water area and the 'whole house' water
system is treated to reduce scale build up.
Are
they easy to fit and remove?
Very easy, simply place one half of a 'Beer-mag' on one side of the beer-line
and then slide the loose magnet onto the top side of the pipe making sure
it fits properly. If they need to be removed for any reason just slide
them apart. No beer-lines are cut at any time.
What
about pumps, cellar boys, measuring globes etc?
The magnetic effect is reduced when a 'Beer-mag' is fitted in a line where
the beer is either stored for some time or pumped from a great distance.
In such circumstances it may be necessary to fit a booster 'Beer-mag'
downstream of all such fittings. The total number of 'Beer-mags' required
depends on the length of the beer-line run and positioning them is determined
during a cellar survey.
Can
they be fitted straight on to existing lines?
Yes, however it is essential that the beer lines are properly cleaned
at the time the 'Beer-mags' are fitted. If this is not done, the 'Beer-mag'
will be cleaning dirty lines during the first week or so and any old yeast,
debris, etc could be released into the flow of beer and therefore affect
the taste.
