Early autumn is an ideal time to plant biennials and perennials as the ground is still warm enough to encourage root growth. The soil is not usually as dry as in summer and this means plants become established quickly. And at this time of year the weather is still pleasant enough to make gardening outdoors pleasurable.
Shrub Cutting
Semi-ripe cuttings of many shrubs will generally toot readily if taken now. Semi-ripe cuttings have hardened wood at the base but are still soft at the tip. Root them in pots or in a cold frame.
Those to try include Berberis, Cotoneaster, Flowering Current, Forsythia, Mock Orange (Philadelphus) and Weigela.

Outside Areas
You will find displayed on the first two areas a comprehensive range of Shrubs, Perennials. Conifers & Heather's, with everything from Abelias to Zantedeschia.
To the side of these areas is a large covered structure where we sell a comprehensive range of alpines and perennials in smaller containers. This area is also used through late spring & summer to display our excellent home produced bedding plants and hanging baskets.
Plants are carried in pot sizes from 7cm up to 250 litres. Many of the hardy plants we sell are from our own production, but as we can’t grow everything we deal with all major plant producers, both in the UK and on the Continent, with quality being our No1 concern.
Remember if you can’t find what your looking for on our plant centre we will be pleased to try and source it for you.
