A VG+++ to better condition example of a German cross in gold. The cross is the standard four rivet type with the makers mark 20 stamped into the inside of the retaining pin for the maker Zimmermann. The cross has been issued and worn and has a few very light scratches on the face of the black enamel of the swastika, this does not detract in any way from this being a nice example. Not many items come with history but this one does have a little. The cross was liberated by gunner Bill Forse who had joined the army as a regular in 1938 having joined the Royal Artillery.
He was sent to France with the BEF and ended up with his crew hand pulling a 25pounder gun all the way back to Dunkirk. An active man he was a bit P----d of with being shot at on the beaches so swam out nearly five miles to a waiting off shore destroyer. Once back home he decided that pulling artillery pieces by hand was not for him and joined the airborne. He was very non committal about his exploits but was one of the men who landed by glider in the first wave on D- Day. After the war Forse and a few ex army pals drove overland through Africa ending up in what was Southern Rhodesia where he met and married his wife. The family moved to South Africa in 1977 and then moved to the UK in 2002. The cross along with other nazi awards offered on this list were purchased from Bill Forses son recently by myself. |
£1595 |

This is to ADVERTISE a new book by the established author James Wilson. The book titled “PROPAGANDA POSTCARDS OF THE LUFTWAFFE” and available from Pen & Sword books Ltd. The book offers over 300 images of original German postcards showing all major aircraft types together with many lesser known and obscure types. The book has a forward written by a member of the Luftwaffe Veterans Association and focuses on the effort of the powerful Nazi propaganda machine to promote the technical achievements and might of the newly created German air force. The book traces the history of the Luftwaffe from its earliest days to final defeat in 1945. In addition there is a section covering the main figures and leading aces who flew the aircraft.
I do not stock this title but it can be purchased from Pen & Sword via their e mail address,
